It’s Tuesday night, and I still have eight official items on my “To Do Before Going to Romania” list. And that doesn’t include washing my daughters’ hair in the morning, getting them breakfast, or straightening the house before my in-laws arrive.
Never mind. It will all get done somehow. And this time tomorrow, Lord willing, I’ll be on a plane somewhere over the Atlantic, bound for Romania.
It’s been a long time coming. The last time I saw Romania was four years ago, a few weeks before America was attacked on September 11th. I was pregnant with my first child, who is now over three years old. Since then I’ve had a second daughter. Any guesses as to why it’s taken me this long to get back?
Jeanne (the Regeneration treasurer) and I will be in Romania for nine days. Since this is her first trip to Romania, Jeanne will see everything with fresh eyes. She’ll be posting here too, and I know you’ll enjoy her perspective. For me, much will be familiar – but many things will be new as well. I’ve never seen Mary’s House, or the Living Hope Center. And in the little village of Balesti, Romania, where four years ago we held church services in a courtyard, there now stands a new church building. I’ll be worshiping there this Sunday.
Now I’m off to finish packing, make a fresh batch of iced tea, and clean out the fridge. Much more to come later.
